Through various projects and programs, Marin Wildfire and its member agencies reduce wildfire risk through targeted vegetation management activities that also work to protect and restore Marin's sensitive landscapes. These projects typically include removal of nonnative, invasive shrubs and dead and down woody material, limbing up of trees, and thinning of some small or hazardous trees along the Wildland Urban Interface and along evacuation routes; prescribed herbivory; and/or other similar activities. Activities vary from site to site based on wildfire risk, plant communities and resources present, and many other factors. Marin Wildfire staff, member agencies, land management agencies, and various experts use the best available science to determine project locations and activities that make the best use of Measure C funds. In addition to Goal 1 described here, Goal 5 addresses vegetation management on private parcels, near homes and other structures.
A dashboard measuring progress related to Goal 1 is available HERE.
Through programs, funding, and partnering with its member agencies and local law enforcement, MWPA will implement state-of-the-art wildfire detection, warning, and alert systems, and develop and maintain a county-wide network of safe evacuation routes and temporary refuge areas for residents during evacuations to reduce loss of life and property during a catastrophic wildfire event.
