Marin Wildfire is committed to helping our residents lower wildfire risks on their properties. The Wildfire Risk Home Evaluation Program identifies what those risks are and what needs to be done to make homes and neighborhoods safer throughout Marin.
We recognize that the cost of work required to mitigate risks can be a barrier for many residents. Our grant program is intended to help residents take care of home hardening and defensible space issues that are prioritized as high risks.
The application period for the FY 2024/25 Grant Program is closed as of October 3, 2024. The unprecedented popularity of this year's grant program is indicative of an increasingly informed and proactive county. The grant program will be redrafted again for Fiscal Year 2025/26 in response to this increased demand. Application process, eligibility criteria and reimbursable expenses are subject to change. Keep this in mind if you depend on financial assistance to pay for your planned prevention work.
For those who have active applications, use the information provided below to help you navigate the process.

The lifetime maximum that a resident may be awarded through these assistance programs is $15,000.
Other local grants opportunities are listed on the Fire Safe Marin Grants page, and require a separate application process. Please contact your local fire agency to learn more.
Chipper Days are a free service offered by MWPA to chip yard materials. They do not involve any grant application, just make an appointment.
Marin Wildfire and local agencies coordinate grant funding decisions. While a resident may apply for multiple grant programs, the same work cannot be funded twice. Grant funds cannot be used to cover match requirements for another grant program.
On the next page you will be asked to enter your access code provided during your evaluation. Once authenticated in your report, look for the message "MWPA grants may be available, click here to start your application". Then select any grant-eligible item and start your application.
