In fiscal years 2021-2023, MWPA is supporting a regional Emergency Preparedness Coordinator to facilitate the organization and preparations of residents for evacuation and wildfire disaster preparedness. The Regional coordinator provides MWPA agencies coordination and support of the many Neighborhood Response Groups reducing redundancy and ensuring consistent application and methods throughout MWPA’s jurisdiction. The initiative is designed to assist residents in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from wildfire disasters, by encouraging a “neighbors-helping-neighbors” approach and by providing resources, guidance, training, and conducting periodic evacuation drills. Under this position's leadership, NRG members take responsibility to prepare themselves and help each other as neighbors.
