LRAD Emergency Notification Network

Watch video to learn about the L.R.A.D. system in Southern Marin

Long Range Acoustic Device (LRAD) emergency alert systems can project both siren and voice recordings to alert and inform community members during a large-scale disaster. LRAD systems are highly effective in communicating warnings, instructions, and notifications throughout incident sites and over vast areas during life-threatening events. LRAD Emergency Notification Network sites are strategically selected to provide additional coverage to the existing system.

Southern Marin’s LRAD system is being approached in phases. The 2021-22 MWPA Work Plan approved funding for a third phase of Southern Marin’s LRAD Notification Network, with the installation of 2 of 5 additional sites within the southern region of Marin. The 2022-23 MWPA Work Plan proposes up to 3 additional sites.

Other elements of the project will be to support educational and public outreach around evacuation and notification awareness. Parts of this public outreach will be in the form of strategic mailers and educational material like flyers and videos. Additional portions of the project will be the environmental review and preparation of site drawings for potential installations.
