The objective of this project is to establish and maintain a defensible space zone adjacent to homes along the perimeter of Ring Mountain Open Space Preserve and adjacent open space. This project includes extensive coordination with Marin County Parks on activities that would take place within the preserve. Portions of this project area include management of non-native, invasive Scotch and French broom and eucalyptus trees. Project activities target invasive vegetation, dead and down woody debris, and other fire hazardous vegetation while seeking to retain healthy native plant communities on approximately 48 acres of lands. The project will reduce fire intensity near homes and improve the chances that suppression efforts would be successful in the event of a wildfire. Environmental compliance for this project is complete and implementation will begin in 2023.
