Tamalpais Valley/Homestead Fuel Break

Example of a fuel break next to a community

The objective of this project is to establish and maintain a defensible space zone along the perimeter of Tamalpais Valley and Homestead Valley residential hillside communities in the high fire danger zones to reduce the risk of severity and spread of wildfire. This fuel reduction zone includes approximately 28 acres of non-federal lands as well as coordination with the National Park Service to conduct work on up to 22.7 acres of federal lands. The project includes vegetation management that targets non-native invasive vegetation, dead and down woody debris, and other fire hazardous vegetation while seeking to retain healthy native plant communities. Environmental compliance for the first phase of this project is complete and implementation/maintenance is ongoing.
