Example of a fuel reduction project

The San Rafael Zone North Lucas Valley Fuel Reduction Project is a collaboration between MWPA, Marin County Parks and Open Space District, and San Rafael Fire Department to reduce invasive weeds, dead and down woody debris, and other fire hazardous vegetation at the edge of open space lands managed by the Marin County Open Space District and the City of San Rafael that are directly adjacent to several neighborhoods, including those affected by a fire that occurred on September 2, 2021 (Lassen Fire). This project includes approximately 24 acres. Environmental compliance for this project is complete and implementation/maintenance is ongoing.
